IT majorWipro is drawing up a plan to expand in South India, according to reports inthe Deccan Chronicle and The New Indian Express .
Chairman Azim Premji led a contingent of the company’s top management in meetings with chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telanagana on Sunday.
According to _TNIE,_both the chief ministers, AP’s Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana’s K Chandrasekhar Rao, expressed hope that the IT company would expand its presence in their respective states. The article states that Rao sought Premji’s advice on setting up a single window clearance to facilitate the quick set up of industries in the new state.
“I am sure Telangana will be most-sought after destination for the top-rated national and international companies to set up their companies here in the coming days. Our government is firm on making Hyderabad a No 1 city in the IT sector,” Rao is quoted as saying in The New Indian Express report.
AP’s Naidu readily granted Premji a no objection certificate (NOC) to develop a Wipro SEZ in Vishakhapatnam, according to the Deccan Chronicle. The plan is to develop 5 lakh sq ft and employ a little under 7,000 people in the SEZ.
There was also talk of developing a soap and fatty acids unit in Hindpur for which the government has agreed to provide the company with 50 acres. TNIE reports that Wipro will invest Rs 500 crore in this project.
The company also committed to supporting primary education training institutes, Anganwadi training, healthcare awareness programs and women and child welfare schemes across the state.
