A Virgin Blue passenger plane has reportedly been hijacked while on its way to Bali. The plane has been forced to land at Indonesia’s Bali airport, news agency Reuters quoted Metro TV.
Bali’s police chief informed local media in Indonesia that the Virgin flight, which was travelling from Brisbane, has been hijacked. The airline is Australia’s second-largest and in 2011 changed its name to Virgin Australia.
According to unverified reports, a passenger tried to enter the cockpit while the plane was in air, forcing the pilot to enter the special hijack code and then immediately made efforts to land. The plane was reportedly circulating above the airport for a while before it could land.
ITV News quotes a Virgin Airline official as saying that the passenger who tried to enter the cockpit was a drunk, and the plane has not been hijacked. The news channel also states that the passenger has been arrested.
