South Korean conglomerate Samsung is not having a great time in India, especially in the mobile handset market where it has been dislodged from the top spot in India by local mobile phone vendor Micromax, according to a recent research report.

According to the report, Micromax is leading the mobile phone supplier brand in India in Q2 2014 for the first time ever surpassing Samsung capturing 17 percent market share up from 13 percent in Q1 2014. The report says that in the smartphone business Samsung is leading with a 25.3 percent market share, while Micromax has a 19 percent market share.

But Samsung says it is well aware of the growing competition in the country. In an interview to Economic Times , the company’s president and CEO for south west Asia BD Parkadmitted the company’s pace of growth had slowed from a few years ago due to the high base and that the large volume of shipments of its lower-priced devices had pulled down sales by value.

However, Park believes that it can get back its No 1 spot in the mobile handset market.

So, what’s Samsung’s strategy?

In an interview to CNBC-TV18 , Park said thatSamsung will have to be more focused on its own job.

Despite what its competitors do, Samsung will try to study what kind of products its end user consumers want and will try to meet those demands, he said.

He also spelt out his strategy to resolve the differences between online and offline retailers.

“We are the leader in the market, we have to take care of the interest of all the stakeholders in the eco-system,” he told CNBC-TV18.
