Reliance does not buy even one MHz of 900 MHz spectrum

Here’s the real shocker from spectrum auctions this time: Reliance Jio Infocomm has not bought a single MHz of the precious 900 MHz spectrum which was on offer in three circles. Reliance was being largely seen as the single largest disrupting force for 900 MHz auctions and it was believed all through the auction process that aggressive bidding by Reiance drove up prices for 900 MHz band.

Well, Government data shows it won not even one MHz of 900 MHz spectrum though it won 1800 MHz in 14 circles.

The second important finding from Government data is that Idea Cellular has managed to bag 900 MHz spectrum in the Delhi circle. This will enable Idea to offer 3G in Delhi, that too on a very efficient 900 MHz band versus 3G which competitors Bharti and Vodafone offer on much less efficient spectrum band. Bharti and Vodafone have both reqlinquished some 900 mhz spectrum in Delhi.
