Khadi goes places: Gujarat's Moralfibre to supply clothes for Hollywood flick Peter Pan

India’s khadi will be seen worn by some actors in Warner Brothers Peter Pan, starring Hugh Jackman.

Moralfibre Fabrics, an Ahmedabad-based textile company, has bagged the contract to supply its next-gen Khadi fabrics made in the villages of Saurashtra for a wide range of costumes in the Hollywood film to be released next year.

Speaking on how the deal was clinched, Shailini Sheth Amin, founder and CEO of Moralfibre said, “A young textile sourcing agent for Warner Brothers’ forthcoming film ‘Peter Pan’ was looking for fabrics with textures and a vintage quality. She [the agent] saw our fabrics in one of the shops in London. Interestingly, the lady also wanted to support sustainable textiles. She got in touch with us. Hearing about [our] low carbon footprint, allergy free fabric making [that] supports thousands of women in remote villages, she was totally convinced and suggested our fabrics to the costume designer.”

Amin said that today (October 2), on Mahatma Gandhi’s150th birth anniversary, Moralfibre Fabrics wants to produce and create acceptability for ‘New Khadi for New India’ and help create a ‘Zero poverty and Zero pollution’ textile industry.

Founded in 2007 by Shailini Sheth Amin, Moralfibre makes hand spun and hand woven khadi, using natural dyes. The fabric making uses almost no electricity and no harmful chemicals. The cloth’s unique structure and character makes it suitable for all seasons, says Amin.
