New Delhi: How about a smart looking two seater for your intra city commute? Bajaj Auto is the first Indian vehicle maker to showcase this two seater, which will be the passenger version of its commercial quadricyle RE60. Called the ‘U’ car, this two seater will be lighter than even the 400 kg RE60. Speaking exclusively to Firstpost, Bajaj’s Chief Technology Officer A Joseph said ‘U’ won’t be positioned as a cheap car and Bajaj will not fight on price for this vehicle.

So will the U car be below Rs 2 lakh?

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Though Tata Nano is the nearest competitor, the difference is U is a two seater and will come with an automatic transmission. It may not be launched in 2014 but one thing is sure: the U car could redefine intra city travel in the not-so-distant future in India.

Joseph said though there are many two seaters in other markets but the U car will be differentbecauseit will not be as premium as two seaters in other markets. Basically, this is a step up for bike owners. Now where have we heard that line before? Ratan Tata lamented two wheeler commute by families while launching the Nano.

The RE60 from Bajaj, which is ready for commercial use, is awaiting final Government notification to become the first ever quadricycle in India.
