Catching them young: Flipkart launches new e-learning category

Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart continued to expand its offerings with the launch of a new vertical : e-learning.

A company press release stated that with over 1900 products and titles, this category will offer an exhaustive range of e-learning material, certification courses and online tests catering to students with a variety of requirements. Among the brands on sale areCareer Launcher, Edurite, EduKart, Merit Nation, TCY Online and Practice Guru.

A quick glance at the vertical shows that the various online tests and products, across subjects and boards, are sold via vouchers with codes being sent via email. Naturally, the cash-on-delivery payment mode isn’t available for this vertical.

“Learning is going digital. Both eBooks and digital coursework are seeing increasing adoption and Flipkart is well positioned to service the need,” Nipun Mehra, Senior Director of Retail, Flipkart, said in a statement.

He added that students form a significant part of Flipkart’s customer base.

This could mark the emergence of the education marketplace - a vertical that other businesses have been targeting as well.
