Who hasn’t heard the story of India’s growing e-commerce? Last week Japanese telecom and media group SoftBank Corp said it will invest about $10 billion in Indian e-commerce in its aggressive expansion drive. And now it seems, US fast-food giant Burger King couldn’t resist the booming e-commerce sector either.
Burger King has decided to join the e-tail bandwagon by launching its burgers online, in a tie-up with eBay, even before it has opened the doors of its first store in the country.
So, you can now pre-order your chicken, mutton or veg Burger King Whoopers via eBay.
All whoopers are available at a price of Rs 128 ($2.08) and customers can pay the promotional price with a credit card, debit card, or online bank transfer. The average price of a whooper is around $3.49. ( Rs 210) But, we are not sure what the price will be in India once the store is launched.
Here’s the caveat: Just because you pre-order a burger today, does not mean you will get it for lunch. The customers will receive a voucher via courier that they can redeem at a new Burger King shop in New Delhi’s Select City Walk Mall when it opens on Sunday. The promotional offer also will also give you a free whooper T-shirt.
The offer on ebay has started today and will end on 5 November.
Burger King’s first store is slated to open in Delhi on 9 November followed by subsequent launches in Mumbai and other locations in the country.
The offer doesn’t sound too great to us. Why would someone want to pre-order a burger when they can easily visit the store when it opens? The burger will not even be delivered to you on 9th, when the store opens. So, what’s really the point?
We don’t know if the offer is smart enough but the fast food giant has already sold 487 burgers on eBay since this morning. Clearly, they have been able to create the much wanted buzz.
