Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is recalling over one lakh vehicles to replace the ‘fuel filler neck’, the carmaker said in a press release today.
The three models being recalled are the DZire (42,481 units), Swift (42, 237 units) and Ertiga (13,593 units), coming up to 103,311 vehicles in total.
The cars manufactured between 12 November, 2013, and 4 February, 2014, will be recalled.
“In the affected vehicles there is a possibility of fuel smell and in extreme condition there may be some fuel leakage, if fuel is filled upto the Fuel Cap, beyond ‘Auto cutoff level,“the press release said.
The company has said it will contact affected customers though there is also an option on the Maruti website to check whether a car fits the call-back criteria.
This will be the biggest recall by the carmaker.Maruti shares are down almost 1.2 percent at Rs 1,935 on the BSE.
An earlier PTI report had said the car market leader may recall one lakh Dzires to fix a faulty part.
In the past, Maruti Suzuki had proactively informed its customers about recalling cars.
Priced between Rs 4.85-7.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Swift Dzire is the second-largest selling car in the country.
Last year, MSIL had recalled 1,492 units of Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-Star models produced in October 2013 to rectify a possible problem with steering column.
In February 2010, it had recalled about one lakh units of its flagship export model ‘A-Star’ to replace a faulty fuel pump part.
Automobile companies have been pro-active in recalling vehicles in case of safety issues since industry body SIAM initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012.
General Motor India had also recalled 1.14 lakh units of its multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera last year, manufactured between 2005 and 2013, to address emissions and specification issues.
