New Delhi: The government may reduce the plan outlay for Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) to about Rs 2,500 crore for the 2015-16 fiscal in the Budget.

In the last Budget, the plan outlay for DeitY was Rs 3,815 crore.

“The plan outlay for DeitY is likely to be about Rs 2,500 crore,” sources said.

DeitY is responsible for formulation, implementation and review of national policies for promotion of electronics and information technology in the country.

DeitY is also the supervising agency for Digital India and will advise the government on policy issues and strategic interventions necessary for accelerating the implementation of Digital India Programme across Central and state government ministries/departments.

For the 12th Five-Year Plan, the IT sector has earmarked key focus areas planned around ’e-Development’ through a multi-pronged strategy.

These include e-infrastructure creation to facilitate and fast-track e-governance, promotion of electronics hardware manufacturing and IT-ITeS industry, providing support for creation of innovation/research and development (R&D), building knowledge network and securing India’s cyber space.
