About a week back, the internet saw a video go viral. Titled the ‘World’s Toughest Job’, it was a four-minute clip of webcam interviews for a fake job.
Why was the job so tough? Because the profile needed the candidate to stand for 24 hours straight without breaks, no weekends off, no salary and constant looking after an ‘associate’, among other things.
The potential candidates were befuddled by the job description, obviously, and this is what happened:
The video was an ad by American Greetings for Mother’s Day, reminding viewers that mothers do so much, and the least they (the viewers) can do is send her a card to thank her for everything.
Great ad that got the point across nicely.
But guess what happened next.
While people were just about getting over their emotions that American Greetings seemed to evoke, Bud Light was quick on their feet and came up with their own version of the ‘World’s Toughest Job’.
Watch it here:
What a great spoof, and without hurting any feelings (American Greetings’ and those of viewers) too. The music at the reveal makes all candidates go ‘Dads are the best!’ Why? Because it is tough. Dads have to wear super hero costumes, take their ‘associates’ to princess -themed amusement parks, not sleep unless it solely involves ‘resting their eyes’ and be familiar with Dubstep, among other activities. Of course it is tough being a dad, and of course they deserve a beer for it.
The script of the video is the same, as is the treatment, and all the brand did was to play around with some cues to make a whole new ad for the typical ‘Bud Light’ dad. But perhaps the best part of the spoof is how Bud Light has so easily made a great commercial that has no shelf life; it works perfectly by itself without the context of the American Greetings ad and needs no ‘Father’s Day’ to be relevant.
Super stuff, Bud.
