Must watch: Johnnie Walker Blue's 'Gentlemen's Wager' and other international ads

We have a pretty rich list of commercials for your viewing pleasure this week. The most talked-about ad is obviously the Johnnie Walker ad featuring a dancing Jude Law, while ads by brands like Under Armour and Toyota Camry made it to the list too.

Johnnie Walker Blue: Gentleman’s Wager

This ad by Johnnie Walker Blue is the clear winner from the past week. It’s longer than most commercials, but somehow it doesn’t matter at all; not one scene is unnecessary or dispensable. Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini are superb, as are the cinematography and the music. The ad leaves the viewer wanting to know what ‘story’ Giancarlo Giannini is going to come up with in the next ad, too, which is a fitting end to this brilliantly made ad. Under Armour: I will what I want

We’ve seen too many inspiring ads about fighting prejudices and overcoming all odds and the work, but few of those hit the spot quite like this one. Ballerina Misty Copeland’s talent is at its best here juxtaposed with the exactly opposite script in the voiceover. This one is stunner, as is Misty Copeland’s ballet.

Modern Slavery: Home office

How many times have we come across friends and family mistreating house helps? How many times do we see a person robbing another of his rights? Chances are, quite often. This one nicely puts across the message that there is something such as ‘modern slavery’ and that it is happening in homes close to ours. It’s crisp and tight and not preachy at all, which is what we liked about it best.

Toyota Camry: Bad in dad

Here is a cool dad straight out of the book. He can be mean, but you can’t be mad at him at all. He isn’t malicious, just has harmless flashes of evil, just like the Toyota Camry. So simple, yet clever. We like this one!
