Keeping up with its new signature trend of tying up with mobile phone manufacturers and retailingthe newest range of handsets exclusively, Flipkart.com has recently partnered with Karbonn Mobiles. To promote this association, the brand has launched a new TV-led campaign mainly targeted toward tier 2 and tier 3 Indian cities. Both of the campaign’s commercials have been created by Happy Creative Services, where each highlights a different Karbonn smartphone and its value for money nature.
Speaking about the campaign, Kartik Iyer, chief executive officer, Happy Creative Services said, “We all like to give gifts to the ones we love, but sometimes, we tend to hold back till we have the right amount to money for the perfect gift. These films subtly challenge the need to spend more to gain your loved one’s adoration and unconditional joy. It’s not just the phones that are getting smarter today, clearly the category itself is.”
The first film ‘Couple’ opens to a couple unpacking the husband’s suitcase. While the wife is sorting through his clothes, he hands her a brand new mobile phone - a gift. The wife is pleasantly surprised and asks, “For me?! Even a much cheaper one would have been okay.” The husband, in turn, asks, “Who will I spend on, if not on my wife?” At this point, the camera pans to their little son, who isn’t moved by the emotional scene at all. He sarcastically says, “What a performance!” He then looks at his mother and tells her that the phone costs only Rs. 2,699 on Flipkart.com. The wife gives her husband a scornful look, at which point he sheepishly hands her the charger.

The second film, titled ‘Father and Son’, begins with a boy gifting his father a new Karbonn mobile on the latter’s birthday. The father is very touched and asks him, “This must be expensive, right?” The son says, “Anything for you, dad.” The camera pans to the boy’s sister who scornfully tells her father that the phone is worth only Rs. 4,099 on Flipkart.com. The father is shocked and looks at his son, pulling away the plate of birthday cake away before his son can eat it.
