VMware, the virtualisation and cloud infrastructure company, has announced the opening of a new and bigger R&D facility in Pune. The Pune R&D centre is second only to the Bangalore R&D center which is VMware’s biggest R&D centre outside its headquarters in Paolo Alto, California. VMware also plans to add 50 people to the current strength of 130 over the next 18 months in both the R&D and sales.
The Pune centre has seen consistent growth through both hiring and acquisitions. The Pune centre contributes significantly to VMware’s global R&D efforts. A considerable amount of the R&D on key VMware offerings such as vShield and Zimbra has come from the Pune development which houses large development teams working on these products. The Pune R&D team will continue to contribute to VMware’s cloud portfolio. VMware has a total of 7 R&D centres worldwide in USA, India, China, Israel and Bulgaria.
“The opening of a larger facility in Pune is a very proud moment for us since it is a mark of growth and the expertise available in India. R&D is the heart and soul of VMware’s cutting edge technology and a robust product portfolio. The centre will showcase new and future virtualisation and cloud computing offerings from VMware to enable customers plan their IT architecture effectively,” said T.Srinivasan, Managing Director, VMware India & SAARC.
“India is a vital cog from a product development perspective and we are able to effectively leverage resources from India for developing advanced technologies. Pune is not only home to our R&D center but is also headquarters for a lot of our customers, who form a good source of learning and feedback on our products,” said Allwyn Sequeira, VP R&D, Networking & Security, vShield.
Bangalore houses the second largest R&D centre for VMware outside the headquarters in Paolo Alto, California. The company has five offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai including the two R&D centres.
