In a series of events that unfolded, reports suggest that the US Amazon EC2 services went offline, following an outage that affected several sites that depend on its services, like Foursquare, Reddit, 500px, CloudApp, among others. As the day progressed, irate users began storming the forums page of the cloud server service.
Up and running now!
The outage majorly affected the hosts in the US-East region, pulling the plug for all of them. Although the actual cause of the massive outage is still unknown, it can be recalled that this isn't the first time that an outage has hit the services of Amazon EC2, albeit briefly. A couple of months ago, it was learnt that a glitch that affected Amazon's data center located outside Dulles airport, outside Washington had a similar effect.
An update that followed closely enough notified the users that the services had been restored, and that they were up and running just fine. However, frequent instances of this happening is surely not doing any good to the otherwise popular cloud service offered by Amazon. The Amazon EC2 is a popular and widely used web hosting service, and several companies, including the ones listed above regularly use these services.
