TII Unveils Chip For Portable Communication Devices

To address the growing market for efficient portable communications devices, Texas Instruments India (TII) has unveiled an ‘almost pepper-flake size’ DC/DC converter chip TPS62601, which is 30 percent smaller in size than any other competing solution in the industry currently.

The chip will enable manufacturers of handheld communication devices to offer end users a variety of features and applications like memory modules, GPS modules, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi modules or other wireless micro-modules used in ultra-thin smart phones and mobile phones, PDAs, mobile Internet devices, portable disk drives, media players and many other portable handheld devices without making any compromises on battery life. Users can expect to have a rich multimedia experience while using gadgets embedded with the TPS62601 chip from Texas Instruments India.

“As per Gartner, the demand for enhanced mobile phones with multiple features will increase from 46.8 million in 2008 to 68.3 million by 2010. Also, the demand for basic smart phones will increase from 12.2 million in 2008 to 23.7 million in 2010 while for enhanced smart phones the increase will be from 6.6million in 2008 to 13.2 million in 2010. This provides a great opportunity for the deployment of TPS 62601 in these communication devices,” said Ramprasad Ananthaswamy, director, Power Management Products, Texas Instruments India.
