Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has opened a $10 million software centre in the city of Guadalajara to employ some 500 engineers over the next six months and 1,500 more by 2012.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has opened a $10 million software centre in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, to employ some 500 engineers over the next six months and 1,500 more by 2012.

Mexican President Felipe Calderón, who inaugurated the TCS Global Technological Development Centre believed that the project would go a long way in pushing ties between India and his country.

Other officials present at the inauguration included Indian Ambassador to Mexico Rinzing Wangdi, TCS president Gabriel Rozman and TCS director general for Mexico Ankur Prakash.

South America is emerging as a major hub for TCS, since it set up operations at Montevideo in Uruguay in 2002. Recently, the company also bought out its Brazilian partner in the 51:49 joint venture for $33.4 million.
