Allied Telesyn Announces Secure VPN Router With Gigabit Connectivity

Allied Telesyn, an IP networking solutions vendor, recently announced the launch of its new AT-AR770S Secure VPN Router. Allied Telesyn claims that its new offering, offers Gigabit connectivity for both the LAN switch and WAN Ethernet ports. With an 833MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 32MB flash memory, the AT-AR770S is designed to meet the needs of medium to large sized enterprises and businesses.

The AT-AR770S also comes with two SFP or 10/100/1000T (RJ-45) WAN combo ports. These combo ports are managed, by the same interface IC to provide a single ‘port’ with two connectivity options. When using a SFP port on the AT-AR770S, the corresponding RJ-45 port is disabled; however, when the SFP transceiver is removed the RJ-45 port becomes operational again.

Furthermore, the PIC and SFP slots on the AT-AR770S provide customers with long-term flexibility over their choice of WAN interfaces and port densities. Allied Telesyn’s range of PICs enables customers to take advantage of the many interface types for their preferred WAN interface and back-up options, whereas the SFP slots enable utilization of Gigabit fibre WAN connectivity.

Allied Telesyn also claims that the QoS on the AT-AR770S enables multiple office sites to communicate securely using a range of voice, video and data applications. The QoS prioritises voice, video and data packets for uninterrupted video conferencing, VoIP calls and data exchange where network congestion might otherwise cause problems.

Apart from this, the AT-AR770S comes with security features such as traffic filtering with event logging. Traffic filtering uses the source and destination address, port, protocol and TCP packet type to provide control over traffic that passes through the AT-AR770S.

A suite of management features allows the AT-AR770S to achieve compatibility with SNMP-based management packages.

Another interesting feature of the AT-AR770S is that it comes with a WAN Load Balancer that enables the router to combine bandwidth from multiple WAN connections for increased throughput, redundancy and reliable WAN connectivity.
