IBM has announced that Sindhudurg District Central Co-operative Bank, a Co-operative bank in the state of Maharashtra, has selected IBM for building an on-premise datacentre. IBM’s Integrated Server Room (ISR) solution will enable the bank to set up a cost effective and energy efficient datacentre to offer new customer services like ATM, mobile banking, and online banking. The solution will also help the bank reduce its energy use by 25 percent.
Established in 1983, Sindhudurg District Central Co-operative Bank has a network of 97 Branches across the entire Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra. The bank wanted to implement Core Banking solutions to offer its customer a range of new-age financial services and comply with government regulations. Hence the bank decided to build a datacentre, which is essential to implement Core Banking solutions. Considering it has regional presence, Sindhudurg District Co-operative Bank needed a low cost solution, with optimal utilisation capabilities. Also, they were looking for an energy efficient solution to reduce cost and address the challenge of power availability.
Sindhudurg District Central Co-operative Bank opted for IBM’s ISR solution, which is a pre-scoped, pre-designed and pre-priced datacentre offering that has been specifically designed to address the growing requirements of emerging organisations.
“IBM has proven expertise in working with co-operative banks, especially in our region. Apart from being time intensive effort, setting up a data centre entails large investments and dealing with multiple vendors. We were confident of IBM’s unique ISR solution to provide the required technological support needed for expanding our offerings and providing better customer service. It also accommodates the entire datacentre equipment in a smaller enclosure which is expected to decrease energy usage by 25 percent,” said PM Gawade, Manager IT, Sindhudurg District Central Co-operative Bank.
For organisations that require small server rooms, the traditional datacentre design and build methodology can be a time-consuming and difficult process. Compared to a traditional datacentre, this ISR solution occupies fifty per cent less floor space, thus contributing towards cost efficiencies. Apart from that, it is easy to relocate the entire infrastructure as and when required and have a fully functional datacentre in one fourth the time as compared to traditional builds.
“With rising investments on hardware, it becomes imperative that organisations create environments that enable servers to perform efficiently while ensuring longevity at low costs. IBMs Integrated Server Room will help the bank in significantly reducing the burden of upfront capital expenditure by allowing them to spend on a flexible operational expenditure or pay-as-you-go model.” said KS Raghunandan, Director, Integrated Technology Services, Global Technology Services, IBM India/South Asia. “This innovative offering is further testimony to our commitment towards forging relationships with small and medium sized banks.”
IBM is currently focused on increasing its presence across Indian cities as part of its geographic expansion strategy. IBM has a strong presence in Maharashtra and has been working with various co-operative banks like Karad, Latur and Chikhli co-operative banks in the region to provide advanced technologies and solutions to help them grow and succeed.
