Infrastructure management is the buzz word both for the large enterprises and the companies providing services. Effective service management is critical to align services with business and control the various aspects of IT service management.

According to IDC, over 85% of infrastructure can be managed from a remote location. Companies are becoming increasingly interested in external enterprise service providers to cap staffing costs associated with managing IT infrastructure. According to Forrester, India based service providers grew at a stunning 71% rate in 2006 and there are no signs of infrastructure business slowing down over at least next several quarters.

Perot Systems, a global provider of infrastructure management solutions is now eyeing the Indian market to extend its services. Perot is aggressive about the growing healthcare and retail sectors in India. The company has employed a uniform global delivery model for its customers having centralised data centres across the world.

Informing about the latest trends in the enterprise infrastructure management outsourcing market, Dan Leonard junior director, APAC, Infrastructure Solutions, Perot Systems says, “The enterprises are now looking seriously at VOIP, MPLS and virtualisation technologies. These technologies are going to rule the infrastructure management outsourcing market in the coming days.”

Enterprise service management through OPAS

Perot Systems plans to utilise its operational process application suite (OPAS) in order to serve the enterprise customers. OPAS plays an integral role in the enterprise service management architecture’s process management layer to automate and integrate incident, problem, change, request and configuration management process in the IT environment. It enables the service teams to track, manage and report on incidents and requests and fully integrate with monitoring and user interface tools.

“This particular tool is developed in order to coordinate with any kind of mobile devices. The benefits of OPAS are the automatic execution of workflow process, automatic notifications and escalations to ensure timely communication to the service manager,” explains Dan.

The company is already using the tool for its customer site and has deployed the solution for some MNCs operating in India. It is also in discussions with some hospitals.

Expanding India presence

Perot System has opened its delivery centres in mostly tier 2 and tier 3 cities and intends to expand its operation in these cities. Though the company plans to grow organically, it is also looking at inorganic growth strategies through acquisitions to extend and strengthen its list of offering.

According to Dan, “We are eyeing the growing investment by the Indian companies on their IT infrastructure. We have started discussion with some of our prospective clients. As Indian customers are very price sensitive, we have to look at the quality of our services as well as the price point, along with the competitive market forces.”

According to Forrester, “Perot Systems is more tightly targeting certain verticals like healthcare, manufacturing and government. Perot has an infrastructure delivery presence in UK, US and India. So it has good delivery breadth, along with perfect reference client scores, an excellent strategy for the future and a well articulated value proposition.”
