Micro Focus, a provider of enterprise application management and modernisation solutions, has announced a new solution for customers, who have decided to migrate business processes from the mainframe onto the Windows platform and want to retain competitive advantage through the re-use of enterprise applications running the business today.
Micro Focus ReUZE offers organisations the ability to utilise mainframe application functionality on Windows and within the .NET framework. It is specifically designed to integrate simply with the breadth of familiar development and deployment products available from Microsoft, operating as the platform for further modernisation and cloud-based initiatives.
“This solution is targeted at customers that have already made the decision to use Windows as their primary platform for business processes, yet have mainframe COBOL applications that deliver significant value and competitive advantage today,” said Stephen Kelly, CEO at Micro Focus. “Micro Focus enables those investments to continue to add value at very low cost, optimising the benefits in the shortest amount of time and avoiding the risks associated with rewriting or replacing critical business systems.”
With contemporary Visual Studio based Integrated Development Environment, Micro Focus ReUZE Developer will enable customers to take advantage of improved developer productivity, cross-team collaboration and improved application lifecycle management through integration with Visual Studio Team System.
The Micro Focus ReUZE Server is designed to exploit 64-bit Windows architectures, while supporting compatibility with existing application platforms. Unlike other solutions which insist on rewriting mainframe application data sources for SQL Server, or removing mainframe syntax from programs, the Micro Focus solution typically leaves the source code unchanged, thereby reducing costs, risk, and delivering performance and reliability.
“Our number one priority is to help customers realise the most value from their existing IT assets and move into tomorrow with complete confidence,” said Eddie Amos, general manager, Developer Tools and Platform Business, Microsoft. “Micro Focus has been a pivotal partner in helping to change the application modernisation landscape by reducing costs, improving development processes and providing greater choice for mainframe customers.”
