Juniper Networks Introduces Controller Technology For SDN

Juniper Networks, the network innovation service provider, has introduced JunosV Contrail, a family of products which includes the JunosV Contrail Controller, an open, standards-based controller for software-defined networks (SDN). JunosV Contrail, now in trials with Fortune 500 global service provider and enterprise customers, will reduce the time, cost and risk for customers to deliver new network and security services. Cloud IT systems are helping companies respond quickly to increasingly uncertain and fast changing market conditions. Today, companies are able to deploy new applications and services within seconds. However, making the corresponding changes to the complex network infrastructure can take days and must be done manually. With Juniper Networks JunosV Contrail family of products, the network is no longer a roadblock to speed, scale and agility – instead, it delivers an unparalleled ability to adapt to changing business needs.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Built on intellectual property from Juniper’s recent acquisition of Contrail Systems, JunosV Contrail family of products will deliver a virtual network solution that easily integrates into existing data centers to centralise control across different client IT architectures and multiple cloud platforms. The solution virtualises the network to enable seamless automation and orchestration among private and public cloud environments, elastic management of IP-based network and security services, and a “Big Data for Infrastructure” offering for enhanced analytics, diagnostics and reporting. Customers want choice, experience and simplicity when planning and migrating to cloud networks. Juniper Networks has announced that it is working with industry leaders such as, Citrix, Cloudscaling, Mirantis and Red Hat. With this collaboration, customers will have access to complete cloud-based solutions based on OpenStack or CloudStack and built on open standards, virtualisation protocols and management of compute, storage and, for the first time networking capabilities to take private and public clouds to new levels of performance.

The new Juniper Networks JunosV Contrail family of products together provides the following benefits:

  • A quick and efficient way to deliver and manage networking as a service, by virtualising the network for seamless automation and orchestration among private and public cloud environments.

  • Elastic management of IP-based virtual network and security services, which enhances the efficiency and agility in how customers deploy and use network resources.

  • API support to enable new virtualised services to automate and control the network.

  • The ability to gather deep analytical information from across all aspects of the network, giving customers unprecedented visibility and clarity while dramatically simplifying operations and enabling faster and more informed decision making on network resource utilisation.

Building on Juniper’s 4-step SDN roadmap, JunosV Contrail family of products will enable customers to continue to address one or all four steps of SDN – regardless of the maturity of their networks.

“The JunosV Contrail Controller combines best-in-class network orchestration and automation to address the gaps customers are experiencing with existing SDN controller solutions. With Juniper Networks, customers can now have technology that seamlessly integrates into their current IT architectures, providing the agility and scalability they need to build elastic, open environments and the ability to deploy services like security seamlessly across cloud networks. This level of performance will ensure customers can move beyond the SDN experimental stage and into systems that provide the flexibility and investment protection for the long term,” said Ankur Singla, Vice President, SDN and Orchestration Systems, Juniper Networks.
