ISACA, a global association serving over 100,000 IT governance, security, risk and assurance professionals, and the Institute for Development & Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) India recently organised a knowledge forum titled ‘Information Security - A COBIT 5 Approach’ for IT professionals operating in BFSI segment in Chennai.
COBIT 5 is a business framework for the governance and management of enterprise information and technology. It is a customisable framework that can be used by enterprises of all sizes in all geographies, including the BFSI segment across the globe.
The knowledge forum highlighted the relevance of adopting an IT governance framework and technologies that can create value for enterprises. It covered all aspects that lead to effective governance and management of information security and enterprise IT, such as organisational structures, policies and culture, over and above the processes.
Industry experts from BFSI segments such as B. Sambamurthy, Director, IDRBT, K B Sankaran, President ISACA Chennai Chapter; Avinash Kadam, Advisor, India Task Force, ISACA; R Vittal Raj, Partner Kumar & Raj; and Ravi Avudaiyappan, CISO, IOB, provided key insights on a range of topics which included:

According to Avinash Kadam, Advisor to the ISACA India Task Force, “IDRBT and ISACA have a significant level of shared interest in promoting best practices in IT governance and security in the BFSI segment. This joint forum aims to encourage more banks in adopting the COBIT 5 framework to maintain global best practices impacting IT and security in organisations.”
ISACA has been working with IDRBT to provide training courses on COBIT 5. Recently, ISACA and IDRBT signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote IT governance in the BFSI segment in India.
