Releasing its Q4 2010 findings of the Indian PC market, Gartner estimated the combined desk-based and mobile PC market at nearly 2.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010. This was growth of 16.2 per cent over the fourth quarter of 2009.
According to Gartner, this growth rate was more than five times the worldwide PC market’s growth average in the fourth quarter of 2010.
In terms of vendor share, HP led the pack with 15.8 per cent market share, followed by Dell at 13.0 per cent and Acer at 10.7 per cent share. All the major PC vendors experienced high double-digit high growth in mobile PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2010.
“This growth was primarily driven by the mobile PC market which grew 39 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010,” said Vishal Tripathi, principal research analyst at Gartner. “A fall in prices, large deals from governments and demand from consumers and the education sector drove Mobile PCs sales. Many small and midsize businesses are buying mobile PC’s which is further fuelling growth,” he added.
