Indian Firms Have Built Capability, Credibility In SAP Implementation: Forrester

According to the latest Wave report by Forrester Research, Indian IT players have not only expanded their SAP Implementation capabilities but are also making significant investments to match the legacy MNC providers.

Forrester evaluated 16 global SAP Implementation providers across 108 exhaustive criteria for its latest Wave report which gives a precise view of provider offerings and strategies. Accenture and IBM lead an extremely well-qualified pack in ‘Leaders’ category; and along with four other MNC providers, three Indians – Infosys, Satyam and Wipro, also make it into the ‘Leaders’ category riding on their fine SAP implementation capabilities. The Wave finds another Indian provider - TCS, just on the cusp of the ‘Leaders’ category as their practice continues to flourish and they increase their focus on implementation projects.

Taking a note of Indian SAP Services providers, the report states, “Around the turn of the century, as cost conscious IT executives looked for lower-cost solutions to their large scale implementation projects, Indian providers began to deliver technical SAP services. The Indian players introduced the concepts not only of low-cost SAP resources, but also of doing some of the implementation work remotely. During the past seven years, the Indian players have built up both their SAP capability and their credibility. In pre-implementation process consulting expertise, they are still weak compared to the legacy SAP powerhouses, but many of the Indian players are making significant investments to improve that capability.”

The report observes the demand for SAP implementation skills continues to grow as an increasing number of companies take advantage of an expanding number of SAP solutions. It reasons, “Not only have the SAP core products changed substantially, there is also a host of new (SAP) products that require specialized implementation services. Much of the demand for SAP services comes from existing SAP users, as companies currently using SAP’s core products have a variety of work to do with regard to those products such as rolling out SAP to all their locations – subsidiaries across the globe. In addition, SAP’s products are now relevant to an expanded number of industries and client types."
