IBM has announced that three of India’s top universities focusing on IT education – the Anna University, Chennai, Madurai Kamraj University, Madurai and the RCC Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata – are successfully conducting training on IBM System z Mainframe as part of their curriculum. The program aims to equip the next generation of Mainframe experts.
Globally, the IBM System z Academic Initiative spans across 66 countries including the US and India, covering a total of 1,067 schools. These schools teach courses and offer labs training on IBM’s Mainframe technology. Schools either use their own Mainframe resources or access them from IBM by using innovative cloud computing technologies. The program also provides remote access to non-IBM software that runs on Mainframe, allowing professors to demonstrate more software applications on System z. IBM’s cloud delivery model gives schools anytime anywhere access to mainframe resources. It also ensures that educational institutes now no longer need to maintain enterprise systems environments on campus.
“With a growing need for enterprise computing and Mainframes, the timing of this initiative is perfect. Our effort to take IBM System z Mainframe technology training to students has received a great response so far. With three of the top technology institutions in India adopting this as part of their curriculum, IBM is contributing to the Mainframe ecosystem with a good pipeline of top talent,” said Sreenath Chary, Vice President, Mainframe Platform, India South Asia, IBM.
This initiative comes bundled with enterprise computing courses and hands-on exposure on breakthrough technologies underpinning smarter computing. Companies continue to seek enterprise systems expertise in order to centralise IT resources and implement faster, more secure and smarter computing environments.
