HP India, TERI Launch School Environmental Initiative

Hewlett-Packard (HP) India, in partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), has announced the launch of Hewlett Packard – TERI Schools’ Future Programme -- an initiative to improve environment projects in schools. As part of the project, HP India has awarded a grant of Rs 1,1700,000 (one crore seventeen lakhs only) comprising cash and technology resources to TERI for the programme.

The primary objective of this partnership is to create a motivated force of students–leading to cleaner and greener school campuses–and initiate ecologically beneficial initiatives in the areas of energy, e-waste management and greening of neighbourhoods.

"We are proud to be part of this initiative that will educate and inspire young Indians in conserving the environment," said Neelam Dhawan, managing director, HP India. "Learning about waste management, energy conservation and ecological sustenance has become essential in this day and age, because the world needs the new generation to treat our environment responsibly. We are pleased to be partnering with TERI, a renowned organisation in the field of environment education, which has been a driving force behind environment conservation and awareness at the grassroots level."

"We are delighted about this alliance with Hewlett-Packard and look forward to initiate the environment improvement projects at primary levels," said Dr R K Pachauri, director general TERI. "TERI has had linkages and collaborations with like-minded institutions, organisations and individuals. The students of the selected schools will work in close association with TERI’s researchers to study and analyse various environment issues," he added.

The 'Hewlett Packard – TERI Schools' Future Programme' will help primary and secondary schools in Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi to take practical action to save energy and water while reducing their utility bills. The programme will support the schools directly with ideation, as well as in implementing their environmental initiatives. The initiative also involves providing HP technology to the schools, which will enable them to network with other schools and share best practices.
