Essar Strengthens Web Security With Websense

In a bid to enhance its corporate Web and data security, Essar Group has deployed Websense Web Security to protect its thousands of employees from emerging Web threats. The deployment has also enabled Essar Group to centrally enforce its Web policy, assuring compliance and reducing the group’s bandwidth requirement.
With a vast number of Internet users across locations, managing Web security was becoming increasingly challenging for Essar. In line with their strategy to consolidate and centralise IT operations, Essar began looking for a single, centrally-managed Web security solution and chose Websense Web Security as it proved to be flexible in adapting to Essar's needs. N Jayantha, Essar Group's head of IT Infrastructure, says, "Our Web filtering was not up to the mark. The latest malware, phishing and virus attacks were not being dealt with effectively. Post the Websense implementation, we can ensure that Web usage is secure, productive and in line with our corporate policy. This has yielded benefits in terms of compliance as well."
The benefits of Websense Web Security have positively impacted the Essar group's efficiency in real terms. Where there was previously a lack of reporting capabilities, the reporting capabilities inherent in the Websense Web Security are detailed and have also helped enforce corporate Web policy. Websense also offers differing levels of access, which Essar uses to good effect to provide unrestricted—but safe—Web access to its VIP users.
In conjunction with other solutions deployed, Websense Web Security has also managed to drastically reduce the group’s bandwidth requirement. "We had to revise estimates of Internet bandwidth. There was a substantial saving in bandwidth and the associated cost. We saved almost Rs 50 lakh in bandwidth alone in addition to other benefits," says Jayantha.
Initially deployed across five locations, Websense Web Security remedies the pain points in Essar Group’s Web security needs. Essar plans to continue deploying the solution as required by its growing ranks.
