EMC’s new family of unified storage systems – EMC VNX – consolidates the features and functionality of EMC CLARiiON and EMC Celerra into a single, powerful family of unified storage arrays that scale from entry-level to datacentre-class systems.

Both the VNXe series and VNX series are managed by EMC Unisphere, a centralised and simple interface. While the VNXe systems are designed for IT professionals in SME environments with little storage experience, the VNX family is the future of EMC’s midrange storage systems – both VNXe and VNX will enable EMC extend its market leadership.

EMC introduced the innovative new EMC Symmetrix VMAX software technologies that make it the most powerful, trusted and smartest storage array in the world and capable of supporting petabytes of information and up to 5 million virtual machines. Among the multiple new features are an advanced version of FAST (fully automated storage tiering) software that automatically optimises the array based on data usage; new server virtualisation, security and federation capabilities; and new operating software that doubles system performance with no hardware upgrade required.

EMC also announced new Data Domain backup and archiving capabilities including new systems that are 7 times faster than the competition, providing the industry’s fastest backups and new Data Domain Archiver systems, the industry’s first deduplication system designed exclusively for long-term disk-based retention of backups.

“The digital information explosion is not relevant to large enterprises alone. Information technologies are becoming more inclusive in an SME organisation’s core strategy for delivering value, and SME users are faced with tremendous digital data creation and consumption. IT teams in an SME environment will derive greater benefits of a shared storage product that is designed expressly for them – simple, efficient and affordable,” said Manoj Chugh, President, EMC India and SAARC.

“With VNXe, EMC has designed an entirely new storage array built specifically for the SME segment, which does not have the luxury of in-house storage experts. EMC VNXe can be installed in minutes and configured in seconds. By offering twice the capacity at half the cost of most current competitive alternatives, it is a compelling choice for organisations that are under pressure to manage digital information deluge and deliver efficient IT services,” he added.
