CA Technologies Names Greg Valdez CIO

CA Technologies has announced that Greg Valdez has been named Chief Information Officer, effective May 2, 2011. Valdez replaces Stephen Savage, who has accepted a new position leading the company’s Global Government Relations program as chief government relations officer. Both Valdez and Savage report to Phil Harrington, executive vice president, risk, and chief administrative officer.

“With more than 25 years of combined professional technology and business experience, Greg is ideally suited for the role of CIO,” Harrington said. “Greg will build on what we already have accomplished in our Global Information Services (GIS) organisation, and drive even greater business value as we take CA Technologies and its customers to the next generation of IT.”

Valdez has held CIO positions at BMC Software and Veritas Software, where he led programs with the executive teams to improve operating margins, business processes, IT restructuring and investment, and product implementations. Valdez also has served as divisional information officer and chief technology officer at Associates First Capital Corporation. Earlier in his career, Valdez spent time at U S West and Arthur Andersen.

Most recently, Valdez spent two years as the technology information officer for the Houston Independent School District, the seventh largest school district in the U.S., where he was recruited through a Dell Foundation Grant to create and execute an IT transformation plan.

“We want to thank Steve for his leadership of GIS for the past four years,” continued Harrington. “Steve’s knowledge of CA Technologies and his expertise in running IT in a large corporation, will help us both articulate a point a view to policymakers, as well as expand our business presence in federal, state, municipal and international markets.”

Prior to becoming CIO, he was responsible for the business planning cycle and the significant corporate transformation that redefined the company’s business processes. Savage has also been responsible for corporate strategy and SOX compliance and has held international roles within CA Technologies, including running the Application Products Group in Europe as well as European professional services.
Before joining CA Technologies, he was responsible for international operations of a consulting services company that was purchased by CA Technologies in 1998.
