Blue Coat Systems has announced version 5.4 of its SGOS operating software for its Blue Coat ProxySG appliance family. The new release is designed for fast installation for WAN optimisation deployments and features an intelligent configuration wizard that enables set-up in less than a minute, even by a novice.
The streamlined installation provides an immediate baseline WAN optimisation configuration that provides both real-time visibility of WAN application traffic and the ability to accelerate business-critical applications. From this initial configuration, enterprises can realise acceleration of remote file access (utilising CIFS), e-mail programmes including Microsoft Exchange and Web-based applications whether internal or external providing an immediate time-to-value.
The simplified configuration process reduces the complexity of choices for an initial set-up by automating and layering greater intelligence into each of the installation steps. Enterprise customers can then apply customisation features to gain greater network control, including the ability to manage, meter or block unimportant or malicious applications and content.
In addition to the streamlined configuration wizard, ProxySG appliances now feature auto-detection of networking parameters, including automatic discovery of network topology variables, such as interface speeds and layer 2 Media Access Control (MAC) issues. The appliances can now also locate centralised acceleration peers in the data centre or headquarters and provide detection of and responsive recover from high-loss networking conditions.
Upon installation, the ProxySG appliance accelerates business-critical applications and provides instant visibility into applications running across the WAN to the branch office. With this new software release, customers can achieve immediate visibility into the performance and security of business applications and Web content.
Availability and Pricing
Version 5.4 of the SGOS operating software for ProxySG appliances will be available later this month. It will become the standard default shipping version of the product when released. The new software will also be available as a free upgrade for installed-base customers with service contracts.
