Arista Unveils Application Switch In India

Arista Networks, Inc. has announced the first Arista Application Switch, the 7124FX. This technology enables applications to run natively in the network, improving performance of business critical and latency sensitive applications, increasing profitability, simplifying deployments, and boosting competitive advantage.

Arista’s approach to Application Switching is based on technology that moves beyond traditional switching. With the Arista Application Switch customers have complete control over the application. Initial use cases for the switch include equity trading systems, inline risk analysis, market data feed normalisation, deep packet inspection, signals intelligence, and more.

“This is the first network switch that enables customers to run their real-time business applications directly in the network, with a combination of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) hardware-acceleration and software. This truly changes the game for applications that are performance and latency sensitive, allowing transparent insertion of the application into the data stream,” stated Andreas Bechtolsheim, Arista’s Chairman and Chief Development Officer.

“This capability delivers an order-of-magnitude latency performance improvement while allowing customers to gain unique advantages based on their own software running in the Arista Application Switch,” he added.

The Arista 7124FX Application Switch is the first 10 Gigabit data center class switch that supports both application acceleration and a full suite of standard network protocols, through Arista EOS. The 7124FX Application Switch is based on the Arista 7124SX, a proven ultra low-latency switching platform. This means that the 7124FX can be deployed transparently in a complex and heterogeneous network. The application acceleration is achieved via a programmable 160 Gbps processing engine that lets customers integrate their own unique applications directly into the network in a way that offers improvements in system latency.
