The government has asked all State-owned and private ISPs to provide 2Mbps bandwidth as broadband to residential subscribers for the existing price of the 256 kbps offering.
The old 256 kbps plan is to be replaced by 2 Mbps plan for homes at same price with effect from January 1,2007.
Along with MTNL and BSNL, You Telecom is the only private operator who has announced the 2Mbps plan, a You Telecom statement said.
Commenting on the new development EVS Chakravarthy, CEO, You Telecom India said, “This might change the course of broadband penetration in the country. With this kind of bandwidth to homes, value added services such as broadband gaming, VoIP, online music and streaming video and others will see substantial growth as subscribers will begin to enjoy internet experience. New Year has started on a good note for the Internet/Broadband industry.”
The Citigroup Venture Capital International owned Broadband service provider has the necessary infrastructure and technology to provide 2Mbps bandwidth to its customers.
You Telecom’s Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) cable facilitates class service to its customers. The cable network has been put together by partnering with companies of the likes of Motorola, Avaya, Commscope and Cisco.
