Amazon Web Services to add analytics tool to its arsenal: Report

Amazon Web Services is all set to dip its finger in the analytics services pie and is expected to announce a new service to help businesses analyze their data, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Agencies[/caption] With AWS catering to bigwigs like Adobe, Airbnb, NASA, Dow Jones, Netflix, et al the new service can offer an advantage to those already storing their data on AWS. Talking about the latest development to WSJ, Boris Evelson, a Forrester Research analyst says that this has the potential to become a force to reckon with. It can really be a heavyweight in the BI market. The WSJ report also reveals that the new services is code named Space Needle and it is expected to include a faster method for transferring or copying data to AWS. In cases of massively large amounts of data, Amazon would supply a storage device that customers can send back filled with data – all this at a monthly subscription fee. With this venture, Amazon is entering into a domain that favoured by software giants and start-ups alike and if it finds the sweet spot, it can make a mark in the analytics market – that is yet to hit maturity. However, the WSJ report points out, tools like these are only as good as the data that is being fed into it. Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, connecting and feeding that data which is not stored or hosted on the AWS systems will pose a big challenge in the overall uptake and proliferation of this service.
