Amazon India is planning to hiring 8000 more employees in its logistics and delivery space department over the next seven months as it goes ahead with its promise of providing shipping services to sellers registered on their e-commerce portal. Amazon trails Flipkart when it comes to the number of warehouses, it has eight across seven states in the country while Flipkart has 13. The big e-commerce players Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal are hoping that this strengthening of their shipping services will give them an edge competitively. All three offer same-day delivery in some cities, and they plan to expand this service to more cities in the coming months, as over half the people who shopped online in 2014 were from outside metros and large cities. Seattle-based Amazon started its India operations in June 2013, six years after Flipkart.
