2G collusion: Balwa questioned by CBI, says unaware of any conversation

New Delhi: Swan and DB Realty promoter Shahid Balwa was on Wednesday question by the CBI in New Delhi for over four hours.

According to CNN-IBN sources, Balwa was asked whether he was ever in touch with CBI special prosecutor AK Singh or any other member of his prosecution team.

The investigators also asked him whether he was aware of the context in the conversation between Singh and Unitech MD Sanjay Chandra.

Sources further said that Balwa denied being in touch with Singh and told them that he wasn’t aware of any conversation between Chandra and Singh.

Balwa was summoned for questioning by the CBI in connection with the audio recordings.

Balwa, who is also an accused in the 2G telecom spectrum allocation scam, was summoned after his name cropped up in the conversation.

The agency expects more such conversations to emerge as it believes that the recording and the subsequent leakage of these conversations is the result of corporate rivalry in the telecom sector, they said.

Meanwhile, the agency has received the report from Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) on the tape. The CFSL in its report has said that the conversations are “untampered”. However, in the absence of any voice samples of Singh and Chandra, it could not authenticate whether the voices in the recordings are of the duo, they said.
