Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda prioritized women safety and security during his maiden Rail Budget speech today.

In order to ensure safety of women at railway stations as well as trains, Gowda announced that 4,000 more women RPF constables will be recruited. These constables will escort all ladies coaches. Further, all RPF escort teams on board trains will carry mobile phonesso that passengers can contact them when in distress.
“In order to ensure security of ladies travelling alone, special instructions are being issued for their safety in each class of travel. With the induction of women RPF constables, coaches for ladies will be escorted. Additional care will be taken for ladies travelling alone in all classes,” said Gowda today.
The railway minister also announcedbattery-operated cars to ferry the old and differently-abled people at all major stations.
Railways will explore the possibility of building of boundary walls around stations through PPP route.
