Education sector Budget 2020
Under various articles of the Indian Constitution, free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to the children between the ages of 6 and 14. The Union government makes budgetary allocation every year to the education sector for its improvement and increasing infrastructure. There were demands in the past to hike the allocation for education. In the interim Budget for 2019-20, the government had allocated Rs 93,847.64 crore for the education sector, an increase of over 10 percent from previous Budget allocation. While Rs 37,461.01 crore had been allocated for higher education, an amount of Rs 56,386.63 crore had been earmarked for school education.
