OPPO brightens Diwali for 17 underprivileged kids with a scholarship of 20 lakhs

Diwali is a festival of lights, sweets, and most importantly a lot of gifts. Keeping the Diwali spirit in mind, OPPO mobiles has partnered with Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP) to provide scholarships and promote cricket skills to the less privileged kids.  This wonderful initiate is a part of OPPO’s Diwali campaign where the brand has pledged to donate an amount of INR 20 per share of their new TV commercial. As a result of this initiative, OPPO was able to raise 10 lakh rupees, and the brand decided to add another 10 lakh rupees bringing the total to a whopping 20 lakhs!

The scholarship program

The scholarship program will enable the selected children to train at the Cricket Academy of Pathans for a period of 12 months. The selected children will have the opportunity to learn under the guidance of experienced cricket coaches. This scholarship program will not only aid in unearthing new talent but also give young kids a platform to kick-start their budding cricketing careers.

The selection process

The trials for the scholarship program were held at Yadu Public School in Noida. A total of 17 kids were selected after the two different rounds of batting, bowling, and fielding under the strict supervision of professional coaches. 50 kids participated in the first round out of which 30 were selected. In the second and the final round, 17 kids were selected for the scholarship program.

People behind the initiative

Mr Will Yang, Brand Director of OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited said “It gives us immense pleasure to support the underprivileged kids, help them achieve their dreams and make a mark in the field of cricket. We strongly believe that there is a huge pool of talent in the country and with the association, Cricket Academy of Pathans will be able to provide enough resources for the students to excel. We hope that these students are able to carve a niche for themselves in the society.”

Irfan Pathan, Indian Cricketer Icon said, “I am delighted to be a part of such unique program to promote and impart cricket, the game which has given us so much, now it’s our turn to give back to the society and impart what we have learnt over so many years. I urge other corporates to come forward and help us in spreading the knowledge about gentlemen’s game”.

This scholarship program will immensely help the selected kids to realise their dream of becoming a professional cricketer and playing for India. They will undergo training by professional coaches, who will guide them on enhancing their game along with providing requisite advice on physical fitness, sportsman spirit and handling game pressure among other things.

We hope this wonderful initiative by OPPO has inspired you to do something good. We wish you a happy and prosperous Diwali!
