Watch Ugly trailer: Anurag Kashyap's dark thriller to hit the screens on 26 Dec
While Kashyap has been pushing the release date of Bombay Velvet because apparently neither he nor his actors, including Ranbir Kapoor, are happy with the way it has turned out, he wants Ugly to be out immediately and has finalised 26 December as the release date.

Anurag Kashyap voluntarily delayed the release of Ugly to fight a court case challenging Cigarettes and Tobacco Products Act, which makes it compulsory for filmmakers to crop or mask any scenes depicting ads of tobacco or its products. However, Bombay High Court recently refused to change the Act. While it means that films will still have those disclaimers every time anyone smokes onscreen, the good news is that Kashyap's dark thriller Ugly will finally hit the screens.
With Kashyap pushing the release date of Bombay Velvet because neither he nor his actors, including Ranbir Kapoor, are happy with the way the film has turned out to be, the director now wants Ugly to be out immediately. The film will release on 26 December.
The trailer of the film was launched earlier this year which gave us a glimpse at this seemingly gritty dark psychological thriller. A longer version of the trailer was released online yesterday.
The first trailer showed a struggling actor who is also divorced, played by model-actor Rahul Bhat, who leaves his little girl waiting in his car on a busy street for five minutes, only to find, when he returns that his daughter Kali has gone missing. What follows in this new trailer is the kidnapping investigation by policeman Ronit Roy. Ugliness unfolds when the going gets tough for desperate characters of the film who have secrets of their own. Set on the backdrop of a melancholic song, the new trailer makes Ugly seem like an engaging life.
The trailer promises an underlying emotional drama as the characters deal with the the little girl's kidnapping in different ways. There is also a whiff of Kashyap's signature wry humour.
Written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, Ugly was screened in the Director's Fortnight section at 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it received a standing ovation.
The film also stars Girish Kulkarni, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vinit Kumar Singh, Surveen Chawla and Vipin Sharma in pivotal roles.
Ugly is produced by Phantom Films and DAR Motion Pictures and marks Anurag's return as a director after Gangs of Wasseypur and Bombay Talkies.
