If you enjoyed this teaser of Peter ‘Tyrion’ Dinklage singing from Coldplay’s Game of Thrones musical, then brace yourself, the full 12-minute long musical is here. [caption id=“attachment_2258400” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screengrab from the video[/caption] Featuring British band Coldplay and the stars of the show, Game of Thrones musical is part of NBC’s Red Nose Day, a comedic fundraising event popular in the UK, happening for the first time in US. A hilarious combination of a documentary, drama, spoof and musical, the video, narrated by none other than Liam Neeson, is a must watch for fans of HBO’s popular fantasy show. Strap along for a ride that is equal parts funny and fantastic, as you laugh out loud at frontman Chris Martin trying to bring the reluctant cast together to stage his grand musical plans, with very little success. While Emilia ‘Khaleesi’ Clarke and Diana ‘Lady Tyrell’ Rigg slam the very idea of the musical, only Iwan ‘Ramsey’ Rheon and Mark ‘King Robert’ Baratheon actually turn up. But the day is saved by the arrival Kit Harrington, who transforms into the rockstar that we know he is. What follows next can only be described as exhilarating. If you’re a fan of the show, then you, like us will both hold your breath and hold you sides laughing as Jon Snow sings ‘Wildling, you pull your bow string…’ to his on screen love Ygritte, Ramsay pairs up with Theon to sing (fittingly) about torture, Jaime dedicates the first ever incest-love ballad to Cersei, Tyrion croons about the dead kings and the entire cast come together for an upbeat song, ironically titled Red Wedding. But the highlight of the show is Daenerys singing a catchy reggae number called Rastafarian Targaryen (which you will keep humming long after seeing the video) While the musical moments are foot-tapping, the highlight of the sketch is the humor. Fans of the show will enjoy the in-jokes such as Ygritte uttering her iconic line, ‘You know nothing’ to Martin or the exchange between Alfie ‘Theon’ Allen and his reel-life tormentor Rheon. However, the award for the best actor goes to singer Chris Martin, who stands out in the crowd of actors with his effortless humor. Be it his confusion between the Kardashians and Targaryens, his insistence on calling Kit, Snow or his enthusiasm for his doomed venture, Martin bowls us over with his charm. And we don’t blame him a bit for his over-the-top excitement either, wouldn’t we all do the same if Jon Snow walked up to us? Apart from the humor, the band’s chemistry with the cast and their camaraderie with each other is a delight to watch. Add to that some excellent musical compositions by Coldplay, and we have a winner on our hands. At the start of the video, Martin says, “This is the best idea we have ever had.” We couldn’t agree more, Chris! Enjoy the full video here
The Game of Thrones musical by Coldplay is here and it is even better than we imagined.
