Tubelight teaser: Salman Khan's film is likely to flicker its way to an Eid release
The Tubelight teaser is just 13 seconds long yet manages to annoy you with its inconsequentiality.
The makers of Kabir Khan's upcoming period drama Tubelight have released a teaser of the film, which is exactly that - a teaser. It teases you to a point that you feel annoyed. What is more impressive is that the teaser achieves that in a short span of 13 seconds.
The teaser features the title of the film spread across the screen, struggling to be brought to life. In the background, a group of children are chorusing 'chal ja!' repeatedly in order to yes, encourage the flickering Tubelight to brighten up their day. Celebration ensues as soon as the flickering gives way to light.
Given that it is a Salman Khan film, the hype around it is tremendous. A mere 13-minute teaser makes the film trend worldwide on social media. It seems like the promotional campaign of Tubelight is going to be dominated by these short teasers since the trick is to keep the buzz flickering till the film hits the theatres on 25 June.
However, Kabir's conviction in the film hints at the possibility of Tubelight lighting up our Eid this monsoon.
In an exclusive interview to Firstpost, the filmmaker confirms that the film is a lighthearted one, as opposed to a war film that it is being perceived as.
"The Sino-Indian War of 1962 is just the backdrop. It is not even the setting so it is not really a war film. The setting is remotely away from the war site. We do not explore why the war happened, how it happened. There is just one character who goes to the war," he says.
Kabir also discusses the cameo by Shah Rukh Khan in the film that will reunite the two Khan superstars on the silver screen after nine years.
"If you see the film, you will realise that the role demanded a superstar presence. It is crucial to the plot, changes the entire plot and Shah Rukh fits the bill."
Tubelight also stars Chinese actor Zhu Zhu, Sohail Khan and Om Puri. It is co-produced by Kabir and Salman.
