Producer, writer and director Luc Besson’s new film is an action comedy that already looks like a winner. The Family has Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as a couple who are sent to France with their son and daughter as part of a witness protection program.
De Niro used to work for the mob and the snitched on them, but an ocean isn’t enough to keep him and his family safe. However, what Brooklyn’s not-quite-finest don’t realise is that this family is more than a match for the mob.
Dianna Agron looks as sweet as she did in Glee, but as De Niro and Pfeiffer’s daughter, she’s far from angelic and ready to beat up a boy who tries to work some French charm on her. Her brother, played by John D’Leo, has set up a little racket of bets and bribes in his new school. Pfeiffer blows up a grocery store when one of the staff talks to her snarkily.
De Niro’s handling of the plumber lands the latter in a body cast in hospital. And in the middle of it all is Tommy Lee Jones as the FBI agent who has the tricky job of keeping this family safe and out of the mob’s reach.
