Hyderabad: The Telugu film industry, popularly known as Tollywood, is organising a mega fund-raising event on 30 November to contribute towards relief for Visakhapatnam region devastated by last month’s cyclone Hudhud. Reuters Cyclone Hudhud struck Andhra Pradesh on 12 October and caused the death of nearly 50 people. Reuters[/caption] Named ‘Memu Saitam’ (We too), the day-long events would see leading actors, including Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh, in action in a number of proposed fun-filled events like ‘Dine with Stars’, ‘Cricket with Stars’, ‘Daily Star Quiz’ and ‘Tambola with Stars’. Other proposed events include performances by top musicians, singers and stars. The ‘Dine with Stars’ is scheduled to be held on the night of 29 November. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would be the chief guest at the grand finale on 30 November and accept the proceeds of the ’telethon’ to be presented by Tollywood, according to Telugu film industry (AP film chamber). The events would also be shown on television. A number of Telugu film personalities have already met Naidu, either individually or collectively, and made monetary donations to the CM’s Relief Fund towards cyclone relief. “The Telugu film industry has always strived and excelled in not only providing unmatchable entertainment, but also in reflecting the issues that concerned the society and the nation, from time to time. The Telugu film fraternity has always been consistent in initiating relief action on ground, in the face of numerous calamities, that have befallen the people of AP and India,” a release issued earlier by the film industry said. “The Telugu film industry is making collective effort to put together a massive and marathon entertainment event on November 30, to prompt the millions of Telugus in India and the large Telugu diaspora across the world, to participate and contribute to their best capabilities and provide succour to the cyclone affected people and the area,” it said. The event details are available on its website memusaitam.com and contributions can also be made online. Cyclone Hudhud, that struck north coastal Andhra Pradesh on 12 October, left nearly 50 people dead and caused an estimated loss of about Rs 60,000 crores. PTI
