A stand-up comedian who struggled initially to set himself up in the role of a talk show host gradually rose in the conscience of the American audience and then the world. He gained wide popularity with his dry humor and his interview skills. He became one of the most beloved man in the Hollywood and one of the most recognized pop-culture icons around the world.

For his final episode of the show, Letterman presented one of his ‘Top 10’ for one final time. And what a fitting end it was.

Letterman invited what he called ’ten frequent late show guests and good friends of ours’.

What followed was something only Letterman could have pulled off.

The topic for the list was ‘Things I’ve Always Wanted to Say To David Letterman’.

To kick things off was the NBC’s own Alec Baldwin, followed by Barbara Walters.

Steve Martin was welcomed next to a huge cheer from the crowd. “Your extensive plastic surgery was a necessity and a mistake,” he told Letterman. Not sure if that was a compliment or Steve Martin just being Steve Martin.

Next was another television comedy powerhouse, Jerry Seinfeld.

Jim Carrey followed with, “Honestly, Dave, I’ve always found you to be be a bit of a over-actor.” he then went on to flex he famous facial muscles playing out the pun. Nice beard too, Mr. Carrey.

“I’m just glad your show is being given to another white guy,” said Chris Rock taking a shot at the lack of black hosts in late night shows. The Letterman show will be taken over by Stephen Colbert in late 2015.

Next was Julia Louis-Dreyfus. “Thanks for letting me take part in another hugely disappointing series finally,” she said poking fun at the often disappointing series finales that don’t live up to expectations and especially at Seinfeld, the man and the show.

Next was perhaps the biggest surprise of the night, Peyton Manning. All he had to say to Dave was, “You are to comedy what I am to comedy.” David didn’t get it, neither did we. Tina Fey was next.

But the star of the night was none other than veteran actor Bill Murray, killing it with “I’ll never have the money I owe you.”

The night was concluded by en extended performance of the song ‘Everlong’ by Dave’s favorite band Foo Fighters with a montage of some of the best moments over three decades.
