Sherlock fans rejoice! Official photo of the upcoming special shows our detectives in vintage avatar

Fans of BBC show Sherlock are known for their patience. The cult TV show has been around for five years now and yet has only 9 episodes so far, leaving fans wanting for more.

Therefore whenever there is new material from the show, it comes as huge news. Add to that the eccentricity of the new material, and we have fans on the internet going overboard.

The latest news is the first official photo from the upcoming Sherlock special shared on their official Facebook page. What makes the photo so intriguing is the unfamiliar setting it shows the lead characters Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in.

The detective duo are seen as the vintage Victorian version of their characters, complete with the traditional English attire, just as they are originally meant to be in AC Doyle’s famous book that the series is based on. Dressed to the nines, with grumpy faces, waistcoats, mustaches and pocket-watches, the photo suggests that the episode will be really interesting.

While Sherlock is the modern retelling of the books set in present-day London, the period outfits of the characters in the photograph has certainly piqued the curiosity of fans, testing their said patience.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as the protagonist and his trusty partner, the show has won multiple awards since its broadcast in 2010. The last episode of the show aired in January 2014 and the next will only come out at the end of 2015, which is said to be a one-off special. This might explain the curious clothes of the pair in the photo released.

For now, all we can do is stare at the picture and wait for December to arrive!
