Sonam Kapoor launches teaser of Swara Bhaskar's next Anarkali Aarawali
Swara Bhaskar plays a small town performer who croons lewd and double meaning songs in Aaraah, a small town in Bihar.
After impressing the audience with her unbelievably real portrayal of a downtrodden domestic aid in Ashwini Iyer Tiwari's 2016 critically acclaimed film, Nil Battey Sannata, Swara Bhaskar will now look to replicate the same reaction in her next, Avinash Das' Anarkali Aarawali.
Bhaskar plays a modern-day Anarkali, a performer who croons songs with lewd and double meaning lyrics. The setting is a small town named Aarah in Bihar. Bhaskar physically visited the small town and interacted with such singers in order to get into the skin of the character, as reported by The Indian Express.
DNA reports that Bhaskar dubbed the film as 'hugely relevant' and her performance therein 'the most challenging' of her career yet. She described her character as being a self-proclaimed artiste who takes great pride in her art. But with art comes the vulnerability of being objectified, especially in backward towns of Bihar like the one where she earns her daily bread.
Bhaskar's good friend and fellow actor Sonam Kapoor tweeted that since she has already seen the film, she was deeply moved by it. Thus, Bhaskar got Kapoor to launch a teaser of the impending film. The two female actors have previously collaborated on Anand L Rai's 2013 political drama Raanjhana.
So I've seen this movie(obviously I get to see it first!) and I've howled and cried at how… https://t.co/W4958awT5P

The teaser introduces the viewers to the titular character who is decked up in rusty traditional attire and is seen greeting her audience with an 'ishq wala aadab' in some part of the hinterland. Pink and gold dominate the colour scheme of the visuals, whether it is the graphics, the art direction or the costumes of Bhaskar. She seems to have got both the body language of a performer and the diction of a Bihari woman right as suggested by the 30-second teaser. Anarkali Aarawali also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjay Mishra. It is slated to release on 24 March.
