Sanjay Dutt wants an extension of furlough for another 14 days

Sanjay Dutt, who is out of jail on a 14-day furlough, now wants this to be extended by another 14 days. Dutt was released from the Yerwada jail on 24 December, 2014 as he wanted to bring in the New Year with his family. His initial leave of two weeks ends on Thursday. AFP.[/caption] “Sanjay Dutt has filed for an extension, but we are yet to receive clearance from the Mumbai police,” Rajendra Dhamane, deputy inspector general (prisons) told Hindustan Times. Dutt is serving 42 months of his sentence that started in May 2013, for illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle before the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. But, he has repeatedly been released on furlough and parole. The actor was out once to treat his knee, on another occasion to take care of his hospitalised wife and look after his twin toddlers, and now to party with friends and family. This is not the first time Dutt has asked for - and received - an extension of his leave. In October 2013, Dutt was granted furlouh which was extended by 14 days. Then, in December 2013, he was granted parole for 30 days, which again was extended twice. Recently, the state government said it would probe the repeated granting of furlough to Dutt after receiving repeated complaints on the same. Minister of state for home Ram Shinde was quoted by DNA as saying,“I have information that four to five people have requested for furlough, and out of them, he (Dutt) is the only one who has been repeatedly granted it. We need to find out under which law has he been granted this and, if he has been extended this facility, why the same law has not been applied to others.”
