Reuters[/caption] Dutt, who is currently incarcerated at Pune’s Yerawada Jail,  moved his application for a 30-day parole before divisional commissioner Vikas Deshmukh in Pune. An unnamed police officer  was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “Sanjay Dutt has filed for a parole. A decision to grant parole will be taken only after reasons for his application are considered and requisite clearances are made available from Mumbai Police.” The last time Dutt was out of prison was in December 2014 as he wanted to bring in the New Year with his family. He had sought for an extension to his furlough which was later denied by prison authorities, continues the Hindustan Times report. Authorities confirmed that they were in receipt of Dutt’s parole application and that it was being processed, according to a report by The Hindu. Since May 2013, Dutt has been serving the remainder of his five-year sentence for the illegal possession and destruction of an AK-56 rifle before the 1993 Mumbai blasts. However, he has enjoyed repeated furlough and parole periods. From May 2013 to May 2014, he had spent over 118 days out either on parole or furlough, which created further controversy about him getting preferential treatment from prison authorities.
