In 2011, Parineeti Chopra made her Bollywood debut with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl where we saw her play the role of Dimple Chaddha, the bratty daughter of a Delhi businessman who is fooled by a conman posing as her gym instructor (Ranveer Singh). She wasn’t the lead of the film (which was played by Anushka Sharma) nor was the film a hit, however Chopra’s portrayal of the smart-mouthed, loud and rebellious Dimple impressed the critics and audiences. Three years and four films later, Chopra has established herself as a credible actress, however one look at her filmography reveals that she is still stuck playing loud and bubbly characters like Dimple. While the actress would beg to differ, In Ishaqzaade, which was her second release, Chopra played the role of Zoya, the spirited daughter of the Qureshi khandaan. Describing her role in the film, reviewer, Trisha Gupta wrote in the review of _Ishaqzaade,_ " She is the sort of girl whose eyes sparkle more at the sight of guns than jhumkas, a girl whose complete confidence in herself seems to come as much from a familial sense of entitlement as a purely physical absence of fear." Her character Gayatri smoked, had more than one boyfriend and wasn’t apprehensive about live-in relationships. Her last release, Hasee Toh Phasee did allow her to try something new. Talking about her performance, f ilm critic, Mihir Fadvavis wrote, “Chopra’s performances in Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance set the bar pretty high and with Hasee Toh Phasee, she’s outdone herself. “ “The role is a tough one because it could so easily have been hammed or overdone, but with her fine coming timing, Chopra is able to pull of everything from bizarre expressions to wearing an odd wig without seeming caricaturish. Chopra is perfectly natural when she laughs and pretty convincing when she cries, and not annoying when she breaks the fourth wall. It’s Chopra performance that elevates Hasee toh Phasee from something lightweight and disposable to a very watchable feature.” he added. Chopra’s lively performances have often made her fans and media call her ‘bubbly’, a tag which she deeply resents. “I know I am lively and I always smile when I talk but a name like bubbly doesn’t suit my personality.” She said in a recent event. “You can talk about a cold drink or a champagne when you say bubbly, but not me! So, I am requesting everybody to not call me by that name.” “You can call me as an expressive person,” she said. However, if the trailer of her next film Dawat-e-Ishq is any indication, the actress is all set to play ‘Hyderabad Ki Tez, Gulrez’ , a character, who’s definition itself remind us of Chopra’s other tez roles like Dimple, Zoya. The film opens in theatres on 19 September, let’s see if this film will help Chopra break free of her bubbly image. With inputs from wires
Actress Parineeti Chopra, known for her carefree attitude, says she dislikes being called ‘bubbly’ as she feels the term does not suit her personality.
